Review: I have tried countless aromatics in a Cherry Vanilla offering, and Cult‘s Blood Red Moon is the crème de la crème. Let‘s face it, almost all of us have likely tried a cherry vanilla or two in our pipe tobacco explorations, almost as a rite of passage before we further sophisticate our smoking palates only to be resoundly disappointed; as they are typically so sickly sweet and medicinal, it is not uncommon to swear them off for good. Allow this one to change your mind... Blood Red Moon expresses a rich, velvety smoke that permeates the room with an incredibly pleasing note; positively and equally delightful in front of a winter fire or fanning under a summer porch. Tinned Black Cavendish, Burley and Virginia articulates well with a handsome, loose cut, moist enough to be an after dinner desert of velvet cake. The cherry notes, reminiscent of maraschino, come off as organic and naturally sweet while allowing the vanilla to seep into the experience without overpowering with an occasional flare of rich dark chocolate; an extremely well-balanced cherry vanilla indeed. If cherry vanilla aromatics have disappointed you in the past, as most of them admittedly do, then favour yourself and those around you by firing up Blood Red Moon. From the opening tin note through a casual draw to a finished bowl, Cult‘s offering in the genre easily and decisively separates itself from other aromatic experiences, and certainly against relative cherry vanillas. Frankly, this is a veritable joy to smoke - you will not be disappointed!
